350 SDL: Remanufactured Engine Questions

can anyone provide me with some information on the Mercedes remanufactured engine for the w126 350SDL. The part number is 603.010.69.00.88

this is the remanufactured engine from mbz with the 4yr/50k mile warranty

does anyone know what parts are included with this remanufactured engine. Is it just the block...or does it include all other engine parts as well (all pumps etc..)

what kind of reliability can I expect from this engine (can I expect it to bend rods after 100k miles or is this a solid engine)

any more info on this remanufactured engine would be GREATLY appreciated

thanks in advance

Well...this is all info that I have heard, none from experience...but my MB Dealer Mechanic friend said that all MB Reman Motors come complete down to Alternator, water pump, power steering, etc.

I have heard that the new 350 Motors are a redesign that Mercedes did after all the problems arose with the originals. I have heard they are great motors.

Hope this helps man

Check the archives. There's one forum member who bought a crate 603.97x and installed it himself or had an independent install it. He'd know what it came with. Everyone else I've read about had the dealer install the engine so they probably never saw it or what it came with until it was all in place.

Umm... can't you ask the dealer?

can I expect to get a few hundred thousand miles out of this remanufactured motor?

The long term reliability of this remanufactured motor is my largest concern and I would like to have some reassurance from somebody else in the MBZ community who can confirm that this remanuf. engine is a quality product which will last many years to come

thanks and any more info would be greatly appreciated

I don't know about a few hundred thousand miles. High miles 603.97x engines whether original or remanufactured are few and far between. The statistics aren't there to make a case. What I haven't read in this or any other forum is that someone got stuck with a bum replacement 603.97x engine from MB. But as mentioned, there aren't a lot of miles of documented user experience behind that statement. I think that one guy who installed the engine himself had some problems but nothing attributable to a design or build quality deficiency.

For what one of these engines costs installed at a dealer, you can build a nice S14 with an SR20DET and do some serious Nismo drifting.

From what I hear, the remanufactured engines have had thier design flaws fixed and are very reliable.

A board member from NY has a 94 or 95 S350 with over 350,000 miles.. I think he had one connecting rod replaced at 250K.

The "Long Block" which is the only 603 reman engine that you can buy from MB comes with block assembly, head, valve cover, oil pan. It does not come with injection pump ,thermostat, water pump or any other outside bolt on items you must use your old ones. The rebuilt has rods with a new design as well as a new designed head and from what I have heard its better and doesn't bend rods. It is guranteed for 4 yrs or 50 thousand miles which ever comes first. Do a search on 350 Motors and I'm sure you'll find more info.
