Beautiful and rare car
I have been looking on ebay for a new diesel. For those of you who want luxury and the economy of a diesel check this out. Cheaper then a new one. only two hours left.

If it had the engine and AC replaced recently and that were the actual miles, it would make a nice car.

A 1985 red 300CD with an intercooler is my dream car (After a twin turbo DeLorean).

Apprently in Europe the W140 Diesel came with the OM606 3.0l Turbodiesel engine (174hp 4-valve head, etc.) as the S300 Turbodiesel. (Found a hard cover euro brochure)
btw, I think the 300CD is a beautiful and quite rare car... then again I'm biased hehe

In my opinion there is only one thing more stupid than a 2 door (CD) car: the person that bought it. This does not apply to the SL models which are sports cars.
Disadvantages: 1. Hard to put packages etc in back seat. 2. Hard to put people in back seat. 3. Hard to get GF inback seat. 4. Hard to get in front seat because of larger door especially if parked near something that blocks door from being opened. Advantages: NONE. NOTE: I expect some arrows arrows for my thoughts from CD lovers. P E H Last edited by P.E.Haiges; 08-27-2003 at 11:43 AM. |

$600 rear glass ( i know) hard to find and expensive: rear quarter windows, rear window regulators, rubber seals (I wanted to replace mine.. until I learnt about the price tag),etc. and yeah.. I am dumber than the CD now I wish they had made a V-8 powered W124 coupe... E420 coupe or better yet E500 coupe but that's OT. but I agree - those rear seats are pretty much USELESS for people! There's barely any room back there. Even the big CL600 coupes are not too spacious in the back. speaking of the big coupe doors. Have you guys seen how the new CL's door opens. It opens and slides forward a little..

There are no worries about the rear seat for me (or the people who end up riding in the back) because I'm only 5'4" so there's plenty of room in the back for passengers/packages and such. However, the door length is pretty disadvantaging when parking in tight spots, but I rarely worry about this because I park far away from other cars so I don't get any door dings (stupid careless people, mostly SUV driver's). I don't think it's right to call a 2-door (CD) owner stupid. If they rarely have more than one other passenger, and they don't usually have to carry packages (thats what a trunk is for if the package is small enough) I see nothing wrong with a 2 door Coupe. That is why I have one, I only need it to get me back and forth to school and wherever else I go. Not to mention I think that the W123 pillarless coupe is a very beautiful design. Everybody has their own opinion, and I was just expressing mine. Have a nice day. |

Thanks for the excellant input. From my perspective, I have a 79 SD which I really enjoy, but it is big. I travel about 45 minutes on country roads to work (60 to 65 MPH). There have been several head on collisions on these roads and because I really do try and keep your lights on here in the midwest I may be on these roads in the very early A.M. I will always be in a mercedes from this point forward because my chances of walking away from an accident are going to be much better. Because it is me alone I was looking for something smaller. I am a big enough pack rat, so I dont need to haul anymore packages around, and better not have no GF to haul around or I could be driving a moped to work, I want a diesel because of the fuel economy, and I think from wallering in the diesel fuel and the fumes it gets in your blood and you cant get away from them. (Thats another story as I just built a 12HP diesel log splitter) So my next choice would be a CD. What other items should I look at when looking for one? What engine problems have they had, and are there non-turbo, and turbo? and for power how does this match up to a 300 D that I have heard alot about? (Lets call some other car owners names).
