vacum pump, OK I hope

A few days ago I posted with question about my vacum pump and I would like to pass this on and would like any feedback. I removed the pump and took off the front cover. It was dirty and oilly in there. I am sure that oil is not a good sign and since all parts have to mailed in I thought I would clean up the inside and clean up the one way valves. Once cleaned up I could not resist putting the unit back on and doing a test. If the test was a failure I would not be taking up your time. The pump is now working. I am hoping that the valves were the problem and that the pump will continue to work. Any one else found this solution helpful if in fact it is a solution?
