New Guy Here, Picked up a 300SD

I have been looking for a cheap MB for awhile so the wife doesn't keep putting miles on my $43,000 pickup. Found an add last night for an "81" 300D for $1500. Has 187,000 on the clock. Went and looked at it and it turned out to be a 300SD!!Looked in the glovebox and found about $4000 worth of reciepts for the last 3 years. It has ALL new brakes, Calipers, Rotors, Hoses, PS Pump, Steering box and hoses among a bunch of other stuff. Air blows reasonably cold. (R12) I drove it about 30 miles before i bought it. Runs easy down the road. Cranked it up to 70 MPH and it was nice and smooth steering is tight and the brakes are awesome!! It has a very slight shimmy around 55MPH but not too noticable. The shimmy goes away if you go around a curve and comes back when you straighten out. Bought it for $1250.00. Was that a good deal???? Gotta pick it up Tuesday. (90 miles away) Is it ok to pull it backwards on a car dolly?????

You paid way too much for it. I'll take if off your hands for $1000 so you wont have to lose too much money.:D

Mjstef,

It OK to pull backwards on a dolly as long as you keep it in reverse. LOL

BUT, why don't you just drive it home.

I would drive it but have not arranged a ride down there yet.

Like the others said, welcome to the club. I just have one question for you, I've never seen those W123 style door protectors on a W126 before. Do you know if those were aftermarket or if the car came with them originally?

I really can not tell you. The car "looks" original but there is little history except the last 5 years.
