Egr blocking plate or kit

just wondering if anyone would be interested in a nice machined version of the Egr blocking plate or a kit that you could be to remove your Egr completely.
Thanks

..I'm sure it would look great, but might be better some places to just slip a thin plate in underneath and leave the EGR in place - depends on nature of your state inspection...not that I would ever do such a thing but gee, ain't my intake clean these days...!

I sure would...in CA diesels are emissions exempt so no inspections. I don't have the time right now to make my own parts so let me know what you put together.

Dieselkid,

Wouldn't it be just an oval piece of metal with 2 holes in it and a gasket or 2?

I'd be afraid of getting in trouble with "BIG BROTHER" making and selling such a product.

It'd be worth my *time* to not have to manufacture blocking plates for BOTH sides of the EGR. I want to completely remove the EGR.
So, yes....I'd certainly be interested if the price were reasonable.

A plate that sits in place of the EGR valve means you need to cap the intake manifold as well. You guys must really hate that EGR valve :)

dieselkid, how much are you wanting? I've disabled mine but I want to get rid of that ugly waste of metal.

Regarding “big brother”…

A legitimate concern, however if it’s sold as a “diagnostic testing” device, plus a warning that it may impede emission control function & is intended only for off-road / off-highway use, the onus is then placed upon the end user. And we all know how popular diesels are for the racetrack, so let’s start doing some hot laps!

Mine is gone!

I had been thinking about blocking my EGR, and well, I was replacing my funky manifold gasket today, and accidently broke the pipe for the EGR a little bit. well, that sealed the deal. I just ditched the whole assembly all together, blocked the vacuum lines going to it, removed the remnants of my throttle linkage (already removed the butterfly). I brazed a piece of steel over the hole in the exhaust manifold, and cut a peice of aluminum sheet metal to block the intake side. put some JB weld between the plate and the manifold to make sure it sealed and bolted it on. turns out the EGR was either open a crack by default or was just stuck that way, so it had definitely been leaking some exhaust nto the intake. I never have to worry about smog checks out here in CA, and i'm gonna run 20% bioD 80% WVO when i get my act together, so i don't feel guilty about the emissions. I should have takeen pictures of it, but I didn't plan of having to do it, so i was a little rushed.

Jon--Ready to put a package together yet? I'm ready when you are!

I am definitely interested as well. I would love to remove that ugly valve from under the hood.

What I did is use the heavy exhaust gasket material (the metal stuff) and replaced the gasket under the valve going into the intake with one that didn't have the big hole in it. Seems to be working fine (or not working in the case of the egr). And all that cost me about 15 minutes and $0.00.

I too would be interested in such a product, depending on price. I would only use it for diagnostic processes, though, and would never drive my car like that on the highway...

*whistles innocently*

Sixto has a point, though; would this include the block-off plate for the other side?

BrierS 09-13-2003 08:46 PM

Count me in also, if the price is right. Like the others, I could certainly use it for testing. I am also interested in something to complete the package . . .
