92 300D 2.5 300,000 fan prob. / No AC
The fan motor has a problem working on lower speeds. The high setting works well.
The AC does not work. I have read that the evaporator is the problem. Does anyone have any pictures of the steps to replace it? Thank you Nick |

Slow down. I don't think you can infer that because your blower fan does not work at low speeds that the evaporator is the culprit.
For the blower problem, I'd suspect your pushbutton assembly/controller. Once that is sorted out (fan works correctly at all speeds and the heat works via climate control) you can begin to diagnose the AC problem. Your lack of AC may indeed be due to a leaking evap core but there are many other things to check first..... I'm sure others will chime in to talk you through the AC diagnosis - ONCE YOU HAVE GOTTEN THE FAN TO WORK CORRECTLY. Chris Blanchard 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo 151k |

Nick, Chris is right. If the AC works/cools at the high blower settings, it's not likely to have a leak. There's a solid-state blower speed controller that's separate from the push-button unit that's also worth investigating. However, my money's on the blower motor. As bearings and brushes wear, it gets difficult to start and/or sustain the blower with the low voltage of low settings.
