Question Did you notice John Lennon's 300D on EBay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2431644537&category=6330

I wonder if he signed the windshield like Herr Daimler?

I don't think I'd trust a seller who doesn't know

how many cylinders a W123 can have and makes impossible claims about it being the first wagon sold in the USA if it's a 1979.

I don't understand the comment about the problem with being the first wagon sold in the USA. Wasn't 1979 the first year MB made the wagon?

This car has been on ebay several times.

This car was infact the very first 300TD imported to the US, and I believe it does have a factory Turbo Diesel. I saw it on a TV show, and have seen it in several other places.

What I have heard about the turbo is that they had to special order it like that, which was really no big deal, since it was John Lennon. If you look at the production number for the 300TD, it shows a few with turbo's for 1979.

"I wonder if he signed the windshield like Herr Daimler?"

Reminds me of the time I stopped for diesel in the middle of the night in Beatty, NV (not exactly the cultural center of the west).
The young guy pumping fuel noticed the Daimler sticker in the corner of my windshield. "Must be a good car for the manufacturer to put his signature on it," he said. I mentioned that it was remarkable, especially since he had been dead for quite a few years now. The kid thought for a minute and said, "He must have signed a lot of them before he died". I didn't have the heart to correct him............

Cheers,
Wes

It's getting a little pricey now. And I thought the opening bid was a little high......

Something doesn't seem right with the pictures, of the seller is from Canada, and the pictures are in a desert setting, then how old are the pictures, and what is the actual condition of the car
