Unhappy Help...radiator overflow hose fitting broke off!!!

While doing my first coolent flush (see SHOUT) I leaned on the radiator overflow hose and the nipple snapped off at radiator! I screwed in a machine screw to plug it temporarily and also plugged the hose with a pencil and clamp as a temp fix. It seems to be holding pressure OK, but what are possible complications?

How should I repair... can't afford a new radiator just now. Is there some small plumbing fitting I can screw in to provide a fitting for the overflow hose?

Any help much appreciated!

A picture would sure help.... but in general cleaning it chemically.. ie acid.. and the application of either regular solder or silver solder is the usual fix for those types of things... might drive to a radiator shop and ask them first .... they may can do it for very little effort since they already have the right ingredients and experience....

Thanks... this fitting is all plastic in the '82

The fitting that broke off was a small plastic hose connection to the top of the radiator for the small overflow reservoir hose. I will learn to do photos this week. Have a digital camera but don't know how to post!

Thanks...

1/4" barb/MPT fitting tapped and threaded with JB Weld has worked for me for 12 months now. New Behr in the garage ready to go in this weekend .

i am fixing mine today. find some waterproof epoxy, and a piece of copper tubing that will fit inside the broken fitting. the tighter the fit the better.also will need some brake cleaner or other good degreaser to clean the parts.the piece of copper should be flush with the opening inside the radiator cap area, and long enough to just stick out from the end that connects to the overflow hose.rough the surface of the copper with sand paper or a file, so the epoxy will stick good, clean the copper piece ,clean the inside of the broken areas with brake cleaner.test fit the pieces together. than mix up some epoxy, apply it only to the outside of the copper piece, do not cover the whole copper tube, leave a small area on both ends clean, so the epoxy does not get inside of the copper tube.than insert the tube into the radiator neck, with the copper inserted, put your finger inside the radiator filler neck, to keep the copper from moving, than put the broken plastic piece over the copper repair piece..i used some electical tape wrapped around the filler neck and the over flow tube the hold in all in place, this part was tricky, untill the epoxy set up. hope this makes sense...........

Somewhere there is an old thread where somebody fixed this using a tire valve. Might be worth a search.
