Fuel water separator
Can anybody direct me to a place on the net where I can buy a fuel water separator that will work in a ’79 300D? Already went to most of the online MB parts sites. No luck.

Toblin,
Sorry, I can't help you find a water separator. BUT: I always wondered why MB discontinued the water separators that were on the old 220Ds, 200Ds, 190Ds and 180Ds. There was a screw that was simply removed from the secondary filter body. The water and any dirt/crap would run out of the bottom of the filter and the screw was replaced. They also had a primary filter that was cleaned and used again instead of being replaced by a new one. In fact it was recommended (MB even had a tool ) to clean the secondary filter and use it again instead of buying a new one each time. Sometimes newer isn't better. P E H |

Racor makes a lot of different fuel filters and water separators, in fact, I have one on my old 240D. You might need to fabricate a mounting bracket or something, but I'm sure it could be done without too much difficulty. Web site is www.racor.com
Also, I have seen a Caterpiller filter/separator adapted to Ford diesel pickups. Come to think of it, a water separator from an old (84/85 vintage) Ford 6.9 would do the job, although those are expensive and don't last very long.
