clutch repalcement
My daugther has a 1984 240 D. The books I have seen say you need to pull the motor to replace clutch. Is this true?
Does anybody know? Thank you

No. I pulled the tranny, clutch and flywheel out of a 240d at the pick and pull in about 2 hrs with the motor in place. Should be able to replace it from under the car in less than 6 hours.

M,
Don't always believe the books, the one I have said I had to remove the engine (NOT MOTOR) to remove the oil pan on my 190D. I removed not only the oil pan from my 190D but I also removed the crankshaft without removing the engine from the car. So its not necessary to remove the engine on your 240D to the R&R the clutch. Disconnect the drive shaft, remove the transmission, take out the clutch fork and unbolt the pressure plate. That's it. Reassemble in reverse order.
