New Baby

Hi everyone,

I just bought a new to me 190D 2.5 1987. Couple of questions. It has a vibration and when I shut it down it is ruff. I mean it shakes the whole car. Is this motor mounts. 133,000 miles good power and no leaks 35 MPG. $2400 I thought it was a great deal. Heck I have already put 5,000 miles on it. A trip to Florida and a trip to Washington D.C. how many used cars could you buy for 2400 and drive on trips like that. I can only think of one.

Thanks,
Dieselman

Does sound like mounts. Or engine shocks if separate items in a 201.

First of all Congratulations! Would this happen to be a regular 2.5 Diesel or a 2.5 Turbo Diesel? One of my brother's owns a 1987 190D 2.5 Turbo, and he loves it; incredible mileage also. He purchased it in late July of 2000 with about 100,000 miles and now has a little over 161,000 miles. I'll attach a picture of it if I can find a suitable size one; and of course, if its possible, we'd all like to see a picture of yours. As for the vibration noise at shut off, I would have to agree with sixto on the motor mounts, and with you as well. My 300CD currently makes the same vibration, and its driving me nuts, I'm hoping to get that taken care of next Friday. Another diagnosis I've been told about is to look at the engine side where the noise is coming from (the vibration where mine is coming from is the passenger side) and shut the car off and see if you notice it abrubtly shaking. It might help if another person helped you with this unless you can shut the car off and look at the engine at the same time. In doing this with my car I noticed it shaking really bad on the passenger side.

Hope this helps, there are a lot of other great minds out there that can help with this too.

No she is not a Turbo. It has plenty of power I was actually surprised. I have another question the calipers look different on the front than my 116 300SD. Can someone tell me how they work. I will post a pic soon of the 201.
