1984 300CD Turbo - I Want It!

Maybe For Sale at the right price. I had a good look at a 1984 MB300CD Turbo with 88,560 kilometers (yes, 88,560 Kilometers) in top original condition - just like new! The present 2nd owner has had it since 1990 (13 years ago) with full history and records. I wanted to make a deal on the spot but the owner insist that I make him an offer.

What's is a reasonable offer?

Since I bought an '83 300CD, I've become aware of some problems...

These were low volume models, not enough of them for MB to work out the bugs...for example, the rear quarter windows don't work consistently. ALL body and trim parts VERY expensive. Had I my druthers, I'd have gone for another 123 4-door.

Shorter wheelbase takes some getting used to.

My offer of C$12,000 (about US$8,300 at 1.45 exchnage rate) was counter-offered to C$15,000. Hmmm. Drooling.

My thoughts: I can buy a pristine 1987 300CE (W124) for that kind of money and of course it's not a diesel nor a W123

Hmmm, sounds to me like the owner isn't really interested in selling, just entertaining himself. Of course, he's entitled to do that, it's his car and people are asking....

Anybody interested can e-mail me...

After MUCH work, car is now "right", rust-free.

I'd just as soon have another sedan.

Any serious offer considered...full disclosure of any problems.

By the way, car was featured in magazine color

feature on W123s in Mercedes Classics (may have been another?) magazine. Pics were based on looks...car wouldn't shut off all during shoot last August. Will include fresh copy with completed sale !
