83 300D center vents

Hello again,
Now that I have my vac pump rebuilt and really working, I need to troubleshoot the center vents not working.
I have the glove box out, and it looks like I can see an actuator to the left... is the center vent actuator most accessable from behind the instrument cluster? Is there only one for both vents?
Thank you.

One acuator operates both vents. It is more accessable by removing the glove box. That acuator fails when the rubber bladder dries out and splits or cracks. It is possible to replace it without removing the dash (at least on the 123) but it takes smallish hands and a tolerance for skinned knuckles. Do a search and you will find explicit instructions on how to do it.

Thanks for the info, through the glove box hole I can see 2 actuators, I think one is for the defrost (it's up and to the right) and one is for the floor (it's amost directly in front of me)
I can look up and way left, and see another one, I guessed that was the one for the center vents, if it is, there is no way I can get my grubby paws on it.
I have searched using different terms, 'center'
and 'vent' and 'vacuum' but cannot locate the one I need.
Thanks again.:)

Mailmanmike,
Here's the link to the description.....

Center vent actuator replacement

By the way, remember that those vents only open with cold air and are not designed to operate with the heat on. Make sure the actuator is in fact bad before you go to the trouble to replace it. Good luck.

PS. I'm afraid you're right. The center vent is controlled by the pod that's way up there. I believe it's pink plastic. It's actually not as bad as it seems it's just that you have to do a lot of the repair by feel.

Great, thanks a lot!

Thats very ineteresting, I didn't realize that they were only for the cold air. My climate control has never worked properly. I have used actuators if you are interested in them.
