I stopped by an idependent MBZ shop this afternon to shoot the breeze, and our conversation migrated to a the techician telling me to add ATF to every other tank of fuel due to the low sulfer fuel.

Please enlighten me my fellow experts.

I just added some ATF to the old diesel and it actually runs quiter now and smoother. Prhaps the extra detergent in the ATF cleaned the injectors.

Don't add Trans to diesel, that is an old wives tale, it does nothing for your engine at all. Some of these guys are cracker jacks at fixing things but thats about it. The guys that are building pumps will tell you not to do it and the guys that are repairing them will tell you to do it. Figure it out. Do a search and I bet you will not find one diesel manufacturer or Inj pump manufacturer that will aggree that it is good. Read this

Wow! 2000! If you'd just waited two months, you could have done broken a decade. Even still, this must be a record.

C Holmes 03-23-2010 04:13 PM

Well diesel was allot better then than now. Lubricity is far less so I would say even more important.

ATF in Diesel Fuel

2 Attachment(s)
'Bunch of Nasty things occur chemically at the end of the Tailpipe
(AND to your lungs as a result)
'Bunch of Nasty things occur internally Engine-wise,not the least of which is a residue buildup inside the pre-chambers.

Neighbor's son ran Ford F350 for four years on 1/2 and 1/2,
one day it wouldn't start...He pulled the injectors...
Pre-Chamber holes into the cylinders all blocked with ATF residue.

On my Fuel filler door aperture is a Notice: "Diesel Fuel Only"
(Now why do you think the Engineers spent all that extra money on the
sign?)

Yeah, if youse just Gotta put something else in there ,Redline 85 Plus.

C Holmes 03-23-2010 04:32 PM

I aggree, you should add something, just not ATF

The point that JEBalles was trying to make is the original post was dated from the year 2000. (The date is above the name, left hand corner.) The original poster is no longer around.

HA! and the bumper (all props) was correcting it.

Well, after I watched the video on Dgiant's website I though my engine was knocking a bit. Not nearly as bad as the one in the video, but when it's warm I can hear some out of rhythm knocks. So the consensus is to use the redline. I'll give it a shot. Should I record the warm engine at idle before and then again after 200 miles to see if I hear a difference?
