Isn't it the 2.9L OM603?

They equipped the Musso with the M104 3.2L engine too.

Here's some of the info I collected from some Usenet forums:

"A new SUV called a SsangYong has just appeared on the market here (United Arab Emirates) apparently it has been around for a few years. The first few years the engine was made by SangYong under license by Mercedes, not they are actually putting Merc engines in them....."

"Ssangyong (two S's) is, as far as I know, a Korean sport-utility marque that is aiming for the Range Rover/Landcruiser market. The company is 5% owned by Mercedes, and Mercedes apparently designed the powertrain. They've started exporting into Asia and Europe, but I'm not sure as to whether they plan to
marketing in the US."

"The Mercedes MB Series (MB100, MB140 and MB140D) are all made by Ssangyong."

That's the "old" OM 603 but a 2.9 liter ??? I have a OM 603.960 and that is a 3.0 liter. There is also a 3.5 liter version but I really don't know about a 2.9.
I'll have to ask an owner. You can see them occasionaly in the streets over here. In Belgium, they made some publicity with their Mercedes engines.
But this "big" motors aren't very popular in Europ : to much taxes!
