Funny Tranny Noises

Ok...I have a question for you all...

I have a 1983 240D 4 speed Stick with 267,000 miles on it. Anytime the car is in gear, It makes a raspy noise that gets louder with acceleration, and goes away anytime the transmission is not engaged (i.e. clutch in or in neutral). This would seem to me to rule out any driveshaft or bearing noises, as I don't hear it when I am coasting.

Also, the noise changes tone with different gears...

Does anybody have any idea what this could be??

Thanks

Sounds like countershaft bearings. Time to consider rebuilding the transmission.
