Wow I can't believe anybody would be so stupid to load a car up like that. They must have been trying to get insurance money or something....

It would be a howl to find a beater W123 and stack crap on top of it until the springs were bottomed out. I'll bet that when you were done you could still open and close the doors too.

...and the reason the guy didn't make it to his destination was because he couldn't steer due to his front wheels being up in the air.

You can see them hiding in the car. Home Depot made them sign a waiver before loading it.

W115 or W123 will take at least a 20 ton static load without collapsing the roof, but the suspension will be gone, I've seen a picture of it back in 1968. Rear springs are squashed, front spring is on the road under the fender, body down on the pavement, but the doors open and close.

Steer? He probably couldn't get enough traction on that FWD to take off! I really adore that heavy duty rope to, I guess he just wanted to be safe so he used a string for flying a kite.
That is amazing, 20tons and it wouldn't collapse.

I saw that picture over two years ago. The story was that, yes, the guy signed a waiver and that the rear struts had shot through the upper mounts. It looks like the load shifted.
If you look closely, the engine is still running.

Well it was on that site, it looks like they may have taken it down. It was of a little VW with about 30 4x4x8s and at least 15sheets of plywood on top of that on the roof strapped together with very small rope. The rear of the car was on the ground and the front wheels were barely touching, the roof looked like it was starting to cave in, the car was running.
