maintain engine power?

over the last few years, it seems like my car has been getting slower and slower.

when i first, started driving it, 6 years ago, it would do 0-60 in 13 sec., and im sure when it was new it was even faster. (not that ive ever seen a road test from back then, if you have, id like to know). now its 0-60 in 15 or 16 seconds.

it just hit 170,000 miles, and of course ive always had regular maintinance done by my mechanic, but is there something hes missing? is there some other maintainence i should be doing? should i have something cleaned out or some part rebuilt?

Or is this just the nature of old cars and theres nothing i can do about it? 170,000 miles is alot, but not that many, especially for an MB diesel.

I like to keep everything on my car absolutely perfect and thats getting harder and harder to do. Whats the deal?

Hondas are getting faster

The quick thing to check is the line from the intake manifold through the overboost protection solenoid to the ALDA. Soot builds in the line over time and reduces the boost signal to the ALDA.

Another thing to check is your throttle travel. My car was anemic, but it had been that way since i had gotten it...until I found out that, with the pedal pushed all the way down, I still had 1/8" of throttle travel to get to the stop. I adjusted the linkage at the injector pump and it's like I have a whole new car...and it'll definitely run with, and maybe even outrun my mom's Civic

There should be a line running from the intake manifolt to a device on the firewall then continuing to a square-ish device set on the injection pump.

I've never looked under the hood of a 2.5 so these are generalizations.
