Wrecker 240d 4 speed and engine value?

Since I am getting my 240D back on the road (just finished the paint) I have been following the threads more lately, particularly the auto to manual transmission discussions.

So its a nice day and on my way to work I decided to drop by my local wrecking yard out of curiosity to see if there are any 123’s in (I tend to drop by every 6 months or so for a look around). Well today I’m in luck, 1981 240D 4 speed just arrived. The yard manager says the old guy that brought it in claims he was the only owner. Body is shot but the manager says the motor runs well with “no” smoke (he will stick a battery in if I want to drive it around the yard). It has 345000 KM or about 217,000 miles.

He offered the engine, transmission, pedals and accessories for $400.00 CDN or about $300. US if I do the work..

Good value? Or should I wait for a parts car that I could fully part out? I really don’t need another project now (trans swap) but I don’t want to pass up a bargain.

i wouldn't pass that up, not too many 4-spd's out there and you might have a good engine to boot!!!!!

I paid $300 for my manual, flywheel, pedals and shifter..don't forget the shifter!!! Pulled it myself too.

Alas, leathermang, he is WAY too far away for us to snag that one out from under him.

Hehe...I'm up to my alligators in transmissions! Between the dead auto that came out of TO's wagon, and my manual...I can barely get around Lilly when she's in the garage.
