Transmission problem

I have a 1982 300TD (215,000 miles) and I changed the transmission fluid (w/filter change) last week. I am trying Mobil 1 synthetic for the first time. Before I was just using non-synthetic. Now I am having some slippage between 2nd and third. This only occurs when the engine and transmission are not warmed up after about 10 miles it works normally. I checked the level and it is fine. The transmission shifted fine before the oil and filter change. Thanks. Eric

Your transmission must not have been serviced regularly prior to this. Try turning the vacuum modulator on your transmission 1 turn clockwise.. keep turning clockwise until you have a healthy 2-3 shift. You could also disable the cold shift valve that softens the transmssion until the engine is warm.

I'm thinking it could be the fluid change. I've been told that a 2-3 flare only at cold is a seal leaking that expands when warmed up. My 190D did the same thing. If older vehicles being switched to syn oil can cause leaks, I guess it can happen in a trans; the molecular structure of the syn oil being smaller and more consistent.

I wondered if it was the synthetic. Should I change it back? Also will it hurt the transmission? Thanks
