normal MPG in a 300D-T
I've been finally reunited with my 83 W123. Driving 80-85 in the high desert of nm. I've been clocking 28-29 mpg. Car has well over 300K and runs strong. Is this pretty normal? Does anyone get much better mileage than this? I'm pretty happy with it.
My tach is broken about what rpm's is it turning at 85mph?

I'd say you're pushing close to 3600 RPM at 85 mph.
This topic has been beat to death here; a proper search would net lots of good info.

Several posters here indicate that they get mileage in that range. Me? 23-24 in town, 2-3 mpg better on the highway. I keep trying to get it higher, but so far no luck. Now I have to start with the more labor intensive stuff (replace the chain, set IP timing, that sort of thing) as I've done the easy things.
Of course, I have the 126 chassis FWIW.
