Discount Mercedes Parts in Europe?
We just moved to France from California. I'm looking to find some parts for a 300d that I'm thinking about buying but am hard pressed to find a discount (internet) part store. Or for that matter a used parts dealer.
Anybody know of anything over here in Europe?? Thanks, Clifford

I don't have the specific information you request... in part you need to say WHAT parts you need...that can make a big difference...
However, instead of trying to find a " discount" supplier... perhaps you could locate and ship back late model 5 speed manual transmissions and sell them for enough profit to keep you from even caring if you find your parts at a low price.... Manual trans in the old MB's are almost standard ( pun intended) in Europe, so a very different situation than trying to find them here....

www.eurocarparts.com. They're based in the UK but will ship anywhere. You'll need to talk to Patrick, he's the export guy. They'll send you a comprehensive parts catalog for free if you request it at their website.
I spent the summer in France this year using my 307d motorhome. I had to get a fan belt for it while I was there. I was very surprised to learn that there are virtually no independent parts stores. You have to buy from a dealer. Even most repair shops are brand specific. I don't know what the legal status of independent parts selling is in France, but I would think that a store like Pep Boys or Checker or something like that would make a fortune in France. I can see why the French would not like McDonalds, but it seems very likely to me that they would welcome relief from the dealership monopoloy. The only place I saw things like oil and air filters being sold, apart from the dealers, was at the large supermarkets like ELeClerc(sp). That url is not working for some reason.
