Certain 95 E300 parts may be specific to that year & model, but they're not rare or hard to find. Expensive, maybe. I have heard the catalyst is pricey should you need one. I think I'd have a straight pipe welded in as long as you don't have diesel smog checks where you live.

210 all the way! Easy to work on. Great styling and performing car. The rom in the w210 is great. Helps if your're 6'0" plus...

124 gets my vote. The updated styling (from the '93) makes a huge difference IMHO. A friend of mine asked me last week when I got the new benz.. He was quite shocked when I told him it was 8 years old! I was admiring the rear end just this morning.. I like it so much better than the pre '94 chassis.
Personally, I think the 210's are bland looking.

I think I recall Dr. Diesel stating that we should stay away from MY96 for the diesel engine.

Nope - the 3.0L OM606 engine used from 1995-1999 has no record of any major problems. It was the 3.5L, OM603.97x engine used in the S-class from 1990-1995 that had serious problems.
