1981 240D Heater Fan problem
I'm working on a 1981 240D with the manual heater controls. The blower fan won't work at any of the 3 speeds on the switch. I'm getting power at the switch, and continuity for all 3 positions on it. The motor turns when hooked up to a 12V power source, but there is no power going to the connector for the motor. Any thoughts as to what could be the problem? Thanks!

Does the vehicle have an aftermarket stereo installed? The kids doing the installations are famous for hacking up the wiring harness.
Is this a new car to you that you're working out the problem, or is this something that just happened? Ken300D

It does have an aftermarket stereo in it that looks kind of like a hack job where it hooks into the original wiring. The car is new to a friend of mine and I've been trying to help him get it road ready.
I'll look over the stereo wiring and see if I can find anything that's been cut. The car is all ready to go (changed fluids and filters, adjusted valves, etc.) This is the only thing stopping it as it is kind of hard to drive a car in Northern California without a defroster fan during the fall/winter, and my friend won't resort to a rag to wipe off the window... Thanks for your help! |
