Lots Of Black Smoke
I have a 82 300SD. I cannot figure out why all the black smoke. It will color the grass behind it black if I let it set and idle. I've adjusted the valve lash and put in new injectors and I still get all the smoke. The car runs and starts good. What on earth could be the problem? I've had this car about three months so I don't have a long history with it.

Run diesel additive (Power Service etc..) through 2-3 tanks; perform frequent Italian Tune-ups and change the oil.
Dunno why but, my wagon gets smoky if I run past about 2500-2700 miles on an oil change.

Sounds like someone has played with the ALDA and it's overfueling. Read up on that subject and maybe try an adjustment if you think that could be the problem.
on edit: I'm assuming that it black smokes while accelerating and driving too.

Check your ALDA, but if the "tamper-proof" cap has not been removed, then it shouldn't be the problem(usually).
Maybe I'm nuts, but the more black smoke(carbon in my case) I see coming out my tailpipes, the more I love it. When I get some ignoramus tailing me in a Ford Excursion, I love to blow a cloud out the car's rearend, and make them choke. My diesels never suffer constipation! the 300SDL 350SD turbo ------laxxed!:p Man, I love these oil-burners!
