My 92 300D 2.5 turbo has 189,700 now, just changed glow plugs, otherwise else is generally fine. Submitted my paperwork for my first milage badge on this car a week ago!

The '80 manual 300D has 244k on the clock , but I think it was disconnected for a long time by the PO .
The 82 Auto 300D has 350k and is very strong ,

invisik,

Sorry for bringing oil topic, but could you tell us a little about your 0W-40?

When did you switch to 0W-40?

Someone on this forum with older MB diesel who switched to 0W-40 reported that his engine ran noisier. He switched again to Mobil 5W-50, and the engine became quieter. He was talking about noise before warm up.

I switched to synthetic, but it is 20W-50 Amsoil.

1991 300D - 185,000 miles no rebuilds

i switched to Mobil 1 0W-40 earlier this spring and i was burning oil at startup when the engine was cold. its not so bad anymore now that the weather is heating up, but i wouldnt recommend 0W oil unless you live in the arctic circle. im switching to delvac 1 5w next time i change it.

LulaBelle is a 1983 300TD and runs quite well for her age. We wrecked in '86 (bad one, struts and guts replaced by German mechanics as they came to the US) and the spedometer hasn't really worked since but I figure she has about 150,000+ miles which isn't much on this age vehicle.

This may not be the right forum for this but...

A year ago I took the car in for an oil/filter change and a synthetic was used and the car has been leaking oil since, even after a few more oil/filter changes. I've always used Quaker State 10W30 in the winter and 10W40 in the summer before and after this mishap.

The problem now is it smells like diesel and oil mixing, and looks like major leaking around the injectors (I think). It looks like everything is soaking wet with oil/diesel. I'd take the car to the dealership but I have qualms about that now as the total price usually triples and quadruples from the estimate and I just don't have that kind of money.

maybe your injector return lines are leaking/old and need to be replaced.
just take a good looksee at them.
