Hmmmm. I may have to go scout that out tomorrow. Any known issues besides the overheating in 5th gear?

Diesel Power 11-21-2003 12:33 AM

Nope, other than a bit of blowby, it ran like a top, and didn't use any notable amount of oil since the day I bought it. Palangi, I hope that you can scavenge that car from the dealer. I'd much rather see it live on owned by somebody here that would covet the car for what it is, and display it proudly here in pictures.

Literally everything cooling system related was replaced with the exception of the bypass valve.

The only interior nits was a stuck cable for the passenger side climate control, and a slight coolant odor which would quickly dissipate within a minute or two after putting the heater on. The A/C only needed a topping off of R12.

Oh yes, that car has one hell of a stereo system in it as well.

Palangi 11-21-2003 01:56 PM

Bought it! Picking it up tomorrow. News at eleven.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Congrats Palangi!! You'll now get to enjoy the jewel that I had to give up.

About what time are you gonna be there??? If the time's right, I'd like to see you pick her up!! I also have a few parts that belong to that car that I hadn't gotten around to taking to them, and think you definitely want. One being the original speedometer, and the other being the knee bolster for the drivers side dashboard.

we need pictures of the passing of the speedometer:cool:

Thankgawd!!

At least it's going to someone that appreciates what it is.

rwthomas1 11-21-2003 06:51 PM

I love a story with a happy ending!! RT

Palangi 11-21-2003 09:15 PM

Thanks Brian. We are supposed to pick it up at around 9:30 on Saturday. If you have time to stop by, maybe you could fill me in on various maintenance questions.

Dealing with those used car salesmen was quite an ordeal. Their first asking price was $4400. I wore out a salesman and 2 sales managers getting it down to the right number.

Boy, it does have a heck of a stereo. It takes up half of the trunk space.

Palangi, call me at work tomorrow. My number is 972.615.1389. It will depend on who I am sitting next to, to be able to be able to get out of there that early, and be gone longer than normal. I've loaded the speedometer, triple guage cluster, and dashboard parts into the car so that I cannot forget them. Worst case, you can stop by where I work to pick up these parts. I work less than 5 minutes from the stealership.

Palangi 11-21-2003 10:12 PM

Will do. Thanks Brian.

nhodges 11-21-2003 10:22 PM

Paul, Congrats.

Palangi 11-21-2003 10:27 PM

Hi Napoleon. Glad to see you over here. I picked up some screws for it, but I still haven't hung that mirror on the old 240D. Maybe Sunday I will have time to do it.

Palangi 11-21-2003 10:35 PM

Here's a thread with some pictures of the Euro 240D

Congratulations! That car is beautiful.. what color is it? If I ever get my 240D, and have to have it repainted, that is the color I am shooting for.

Palangi has now officially picked up the 240D from the Toyota lot. I am both relieved and happy to see that car in his hands. I'm not sure if some here understood the quandry that I've been through of having to give that car up in the manner that I did. Had there been a means of keeping that car, or the luxury of selling it outright to someone here, I would have preferred either route over that trade.

By request, we have pictures of the original speedometer being passed between the two of us. I took another one of Palangi next to his new treasure, and finally one of him and his wife, with the three cars lined up (more or less).

I'll get these pictures up as soon as I possibly can. It should be late this evening.

Once again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH Paul for saving that car from whatever fate that the dealership initially had planned for that car. I now feel MUCH better knowing that it will be loved.
