Vacuum Repair...CD or Book

i put in a new shutoff valve (i installed it correctly). sometimes the car shut off and sometimes not. I have to 'choke' it on 4th gear to stop the engine.

the problem is obviously a vac leak somewhere. i know the vac pump is ok because some of the doors lock with no problem.

i've decided to invest in a good shop manual to help me diagnose and fix this irritating problem. what do you guys suggest as far as the CD versus the book. how much am i looking at and where do i get it from? thanks in advance

U seem to have a vacuum leak somewhere. Start with the simple things - invest in a few feet of vacuum hose ( local auto store ) and replace all the vacuum connectors in the engine compartment.

U may also want to replace the 3-way connectors and one 4-way connector. That u can purchase on the web (cheaper as compared to the local MB dealer). Good time to also order a check valve.

If u have already done this then ---

Then look at the recent discussions on this site and get a Vacuum guage and check the pressure at the various points discussed.

I think you answered your own question... "SOME of the doors lock" -- so there must be a leak. :)

I have to say, I have the CD set and the Haynes, and both of them are crap compared to this board. I'm not saying that to smoke up anyone's butt. I'm saying that because it is a fact. Haynes you can forget for your issue. The CD set, maybe I have not played with enough... but there isn't anything there that can REALLY help.

Now, if I missed something on the CD... SOMEBODY, please let me know where I should be looking. I have yet to find a real schematic for the vac system under the hood, and the info in the passenger comparement is crap, at best.

IMHO,

GD

vacuum leak

check the vacuum hose attachments to the back of the ignition switch. Mine had been replaced with bogus tubing at some point and would not seal. New rubber ends fixed it

Vaccum problem

rodsob,

www.**************.com has a great booklet on solving vaccum problems. Once you've read through his book, you'll understand the system according to the color codes and then checking is simple.

Hope this helps.

Ben
