And since when is 254k considered "high" milege???

Change out the fluid and filter (don't forget to drain the converter too!). Replace with good Dextron III and run it till it drops.

For ATF, use Quaker State or Penzoil. These 2 are the most common and are on the appproved list of service products by MB

If you are in a cold climate consider Mobil1 atf. Shifts alot smoother when cold.... RT

Why was the engine rebuilt at only 130K? Let me guess, the owner ran it out of oil.

I once saw a 300D (somewhere between 83 and 85) for sale with some 800,000 miles on it. It was in California. I don't know anything else about it, since I didn't inquire about it (this was also about 2 or 3 years ago.)

Definitely good for a few hundred thousand more miles before needing anything significant! Sounds like an excellent car!
