Need a car to put my engine in......

If anyone knows of a nice car that has blown an engine/tranny that the poor owner does not want to, or cannot fix, I am intersted.

I have an engine /tranny combo from my 1985 SD that I wrecked that are begging to be put to use.

Thanks

How about putting it in a S10 ExCab pickup? Always thought it would be cool to have a diesel mini-truck for errands and whatnot. That or an 80's 5-series BMW. Always liked the way they handle but the 524td are too tough to come by. RT

Here in SC there is...

a 1983 240D that has been sitting for the last 10 years behind a car dealership. It has a thrown rod and is missing the rear bumper. They are asking $200 for the car. It even has the BBS wheels. It will clean up rather nicely and possibly buff out to look nice. I wouldn't mind having it to drop another engine in but I be havin' too many ah deez already!

Here in a Tulsa pick-a-part, there is a stock Chevy S10 with an Isuzu diesel in it and little "Diesel" logos all over it. It's a NA engine and it's kinda trashed, but it's useable.

Not too far away either and the price sounds right.

Forgive the question, but the engine from an Sd will fit in a 300D?

Is it the exact engine, or will it be bigger, requiring modifications?

It IS the same engine with a few minor (And swapable) differences. Oil gauge is electric insted of actual oil, and the speedo is electric driven insted of cable driven. Both are not part of the engine it's self. Swap the oil filter housing and transmission tailhousing and you have a 300D engine!

Now I see why those darn things are so fast.

The 300D is a lot smaller and has to be substantially lighter as well.

Check the cars board...

I could have sworn I saw a '78 sd in las Vegas for cheap. Bad engine is the diagnosis. I was thinking about looking into it when I'm out there in jan but if it suits your needs...

Budget??

I am going to St Louis to pick up a 123 Friday...It has been in a warehouse for years and needs a engine...a 300(5cylinder)turbo diesel would be a nice fit...But you should be able to find a lot of 123's close to your home...it is expensive traveling to pick up a car or the initial cost of shipping one...goodluck...

I agree that the cost to go see a non-running car, plus the cost to transport it back, would be cost prohibitive, if the car were not local.

By local, I mean 100 miles or less. It would have to be in real good cosmetic shape for me to go 100 miles.

Guess I'll keep looking.

Thanks

interior looks alright, in houston $750 14 hrs left

thats probably too much for a car with no engine though

Those cancer spots concern me too...in addition, the rear end looks to be squatting quite a bit, although I suppose that could be due to a lack of pressure in the hydraulic system.

I do'nt think I'd pay much more than $750 for that car even if it DID have an engine...
