Question Can anyone recommend a tranny shop near Houston?

My wife's Jetta has 4 stripped threads that hold the transmission pan to the valve body. I was sent the wrong screws and partially threaded them before I woke up.

I will probably try to tap or do a helicoil insert, but I may chicken out. If I could find an honest place to do the work, it would set my mind at ease.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

BTW...I'm sorry I made a similar post in Tech Section, just remember that there were some MB diesel owners in Houston.

Does the pan attach to the valve body or transmission case? If it's to the case then you don't need a transmission shop to do the work. If it's to the valve body, can you remove the valve body and take it to a reputable machine shop?

Well, here's a pic of the tranny with the strainer still attached to the valve body. Looks like the pan attaches to the case. Even so, a mechanic I use when something is beyond me didn't seem too anxious to take the job.

Are they through holes? If so you can get some long slim bolts with nuts. Probably worth doing it right, though.

Nope, they're not through holes.
