Insurance woes and wows for your elder MB.

Checkout the option of " Collector Vehicle" registration status. In NJ it works like this:

www.nj.gov/mvc/cleanair/exempt_inspection.html

For insurance I suggest www.americancollectorsins.com You can get a quote online. There are important usage restrictions to understand mind you!

I saved me a WHOLE bunch of money! Maybe the other states have a similar system.

As previously self-noted: I am (by necessity) CHEAP!!!

I really hope this helps someone.

In NJ they will check that your odometer does indeed work. And you will be required to go to an inspection station every two years to record your odometer reading.

Do not buy this insurance if you can't abide by the max of 2,500 miles a year.

It's meant for light usage pleasure drivers. Also you will be required to show proof that you own a "PRIMARY" car.

Read and understand all the restrictions of both of your state regs as well as those of your insurance company.

In the state of Washington any vehicle 25 years and older is exempt from any emission inspection which includes taking a mileage reading. Also there is a collector vehicle registration in which you pay a one time registration fee and get issued special license plates. You never pay for registration again. That's how I have my Cadillac registered and I may do the same for the GMC. I have collector car insurance for the Cadillac and it only runs me $150/year. With the mileage restrictions you can just say you drive the full amount every year and in the years that you don't drive that much, you have extra miles to drive in the following years. But I guess that wouldn't help those of you who drive way more than the mileage restriction every year.

Rollover miles! I propose to use up miles well in advance, a roll-under? in preparation to sit the car in a boneyard and accrue zero miles for the rest of eternity after it dies.

nah. I'll pay up.
