Would someone who has done the conversion or who has a lot of experience with series and parallel glow plugs comment on this question of whether it is possible to have pin type plugs wired in series????

It might be possible have pin type plugs wired in series if the ground strap was NOT connected. I would make up "jumper" wires (#12 multi stranded wire), hook those up and it should go. I don't think there were ever pencil type series plugs. Its an interesting mystery but I would think the new pencil plugs would get juice to each other through the old resistor wires but of course if the ground was still attached you would have a dead short.:eek: :confused:

They'd get power, but not enough. You would want to join them together with a low reistance wire.

Pencil style GP's have higher resistance, by a large amount, compared to the loop style.
Meaning the current in the series connected chain (if you were able to connect them in series in the first place) would be very very low!
basically worthless to do that!

Does anyone have any idea whats going on with this system then, did you read his first post, that was my best shot unless pencil type series GPs were around. or am I missing something:confused: Thought he said he had resistor wires hooked up between pencil plugs:confused: :eek:

you are very right. There is something very odd going on here. First off, the size of the threads on loop and pencil types are different and I don't see how the fat resistor wires and insulators would fit on the end of a pencil type plug. Perhaps we can get a picture. I'll invite the original poster to join us here.

I converted the 77 to fast glow about a month ago. From what I can see the plugs would not work at all wired in series. The series plugs are insulated from ground, the pin types only have a hot connection and the body is grounded to the block.

How are your converted plugs wired? Separate wire to each plug?

The 77 is set up a little different than my 300 and when the series plugs gave me trouble for the second time this year all I could find local was the pin type of plugs for it. Was able to get a harness from a 300d in the bone yard and made it work. Yes each plug has its own wire. All 4 are hooked to the block where the 80 amp fuse is (firewall) and split off to each plug. I removed the grounding strap next to the #1 plug. Works like a champ.
