Question oil filter housing crack on a 300d

I just got ole betsy serviced. the tech said my leak was coming from a hair line crack in the housing. I thought it might have been one of the lines. I had asked him to snug it about 1/4 turn. Has anyone ever had the housing crack on them. Can I J.B. Weld it or should i go for a good used one? Your input is appreciated. Another note, please don't call me all kinds of names. I put off doing my ball joints till I needed the car for long a trip. Rt side was making noise & Lt side was cracked. While they were at it I had them do the bushing Rt & Lt. I did not want to get under the car in this weather. So I paid my due to my local shop. Don't you know they ordered the whole arm Rt & Lt and not just the bushing. They said MB parts come w/bushing & you can't get it w/o. I was so heated, you just don't know, or maybe you do. I was pressed for time & had to get the work done. $700+ later my head is still spinning. It's partly my fault for not getting it done in fair weather. And yes i read all the posts on doing it, but never got around to it. An expensive lesson I learned.

Haven't heard of the housing cracking. There's a number of places they could leak (hoses, gasket, sending unit) so I'd clean it up real well and get a good look at it before getting a used one. Where did the tech say it was cracked?

I just replaced the gasket on my 80 model. It was leaking
badly. If you have access to a lift and want to do it yourself,
You will need a 6 MM allen wrench. Cut off the short end
about half way. It is a tight fit between the stearing box.
Oil cooler lines are 1 1/16 not sure what the Metric size is.
