Baja Benz
Embarrassed – whatever – split the pan back at the lip by the drain plug this afternoon. I know better - the roads I drive are real 3rd world, but the car gives me to much confidence. Avoided a Mesquite branch to save the paint and hit a rut – well actually the pan hit the edge of the rut. Gotta trim the Mesquites every year – but I got two miles of them. I’ve seen that some MB’s had or could be fitted with skid plates, and that they offered high lift spring kits for some cars. Was the 240D 123 one of them?? If I do raise the car ever so slightly, will I then have other issues with the suspension geometry? I don’t want a Baja Benz – that’s what the VW’s are for, but a little beefing up wouldn’t hurt. Being a little more careful wouldn’t be a bad idea either.:p

Forget the lift kits, maybe run larger tires that'll lift it up a little bit. I wouldn't mess with the suspension like that. My oil pan met something it shouldn't have before with the previous owner, I took it off and bent it back. No big deal taking it off, it is pretty thin as well. I sure hope you killed the motor quick before it got depleted of oil. A skid plate should be easy to make, just remember to stay away from it a little bit because the motor does move.

I have seen 114/115/123 cars with OEM skid plates. Check your dealer.

I use my 115 240 on the forest service roads here in Coastal Oregon I put a twist in spring stiffener in each rear spring. It raised the back end a bit and seem better in the rough stuff. I bought the steel to do a skid plate but have been too busy to get to it.
Just ordered flex disks and tranny mount for my SD (FastLane ) after reading a post about what can happen if they fail, did them last month on my SE while I had the tranny out for resealing........ William Rogers.......... |

Just ordered the parts from Rusty, and they swear they can get them to me overnight. They’ll be calling soon to let me know it can’t be done. Upside is I’ll get to see how clean it is – the fancy syn oil cost more than the $30 pan. Anyway MB lists two skid plates – one for the radiator #1235200442 @ $112 and one for the pan #1235200342 @ $107. Wonder how she’d look with a winch mounted on the front? This is not the best car to get stuck in the mud with.

Lol, get some brush guards to.
Speaking of getting stuck do they have posi? It always seems to break both loose at the same time or not at all.

Actually I just thought of the real baja benz, seems like it is somebody on the forum who owns it. If I recall correctly it is a mercedes body with truck frame, 4x4, gas motor.
I wouldn't mind having a oil pan skid plate just in case I catch a little something or go a little to fast offroad. Really my talon could use it more, I've almost got it airborne before!
