603 turbo R&R

Someone (MapleLeaf?) was going to remove a 603 turbo to have it rebuilt. I'd like to do this at some point and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for getting the turbo out painlessly. Looks like there's a straight shot down behind the alternator without bothering the block end of the oil feed pipe.

Thanks,
Sixto

You don't need to worry about the block end of the oil line. I did this job recently (rebuilt the turbo myself with a kit from turbocity). A set of obstruction wrenches would be a huge help for this job, but not absolutely necessary. I started a writeup on this, but I am sure it is not the best. Hope this helps:

Mapleleaf is right, soak the exhaust nuts overnight to loosen the rust, work the nut off a little, put some oil, tighten it back and oil the other end, repeat this a few times if its real sticky. I used Kroil, Liquid Wrench is similar. I once had to split one nut using a dremel tool cut-off wheel to get it off. I hate broken studs and this is the one of the most likely places that will happen!
