Brake fluid resovoir question...

I plan to change the brake fluid anyway... but I'm just curious.

I accidentally "plucked" the brake fluid resovoir off the mast cylinder last week. No big deal... I just popped it back on... but I'm wondering... can this introduce air into the system in any way?

Wondering,
Pete

If you simply pulled off the reservoir and put it back on, no, this won't let air enter the brake lines. Assuming nothing else is being read into this question, it'd be fine. You wouldn't want to drive the car before putting more fluid into the reservoir though.

"Assuming nothing else is being read into this question"-Gilly
Like Bill Murray said to S. Weaver in Ghost Busters.... " is this a trick question?"

The level is still WELL above the "min" mark... so I did go around the block with out adding more fluid... why... what are you saying?

The reservoir is there to compensate for the pads and rotors wearing out.
What I am saying is that if you drain the reservoir COMPLTELY, the only extra fluid you will have is the 2 small ports that the reservoir snaps into on top of the master cylinder. If you don't put more fluid into the reservoir, that little bit might not last too long before there is NO reserve, and then you WILL get air into the system. Sounds like you were OK to drive it.

Thanks Gilly -- that is what I was thinking... I'm going to take it on a nice ride I think. Heck with the CV boot -- I'm replacing the whole shaft anyhow!
