Best diesel additive for lubricity and cold weather perfomance?

I've been using Stanadyne in the blue bottle and have noticed that the lubricity for winterized fuel isn't sufficient for the doses they normally recommend. I've added as muchas a full bottle to elliminate the injector knocking when cold. The other aspect that slightly scares me with the Stanadyne is that it is a water demulsifier, correct me if I'm wrong, but it does separate the water from the fuel leaving water in the tank.

The Stanadyne Lubricity formula supposedly is for the exact winter fuel issue.

I'm interested in using a new product called Primrose FlowMaster 409. I've heard that this product is better overall as compared to the Stanadyne All-Season additive as far as lubricity, corrision protection, AND, it emulsifies, or breaks down the water into smaller particles allowing the water to be passed through the system without damaging the injection system. I have some rusting in my tank which is why I'm concerned with the water maintainence issue.

Any insightful thoughts are appreciated.

If you are looking to improve your lubricity you might consider running a biodiesel blend, say a B10 or B20. In the winter we burn a B80 with a heavy dose of Power Service Arctic Express Antigel using K1 as the 20% additive. No knocking emminating from any of our vehicles, just the sweet scent of a summer cook out.

For lubricity, all you need is a few ounces of cheap engine oil in the tank before each fill up.

For cold whether performance, consult your owners manual for the correct proportions of kerosene or gasoline to be used for the particular weather conditions.

You can pay big bucks for the highly marketed additives and come up with the same effect.

Merry Christmas,

Cold weather performance and lubercation; Opposite ends.

I use RedLine Diesel Catalyst for the way it quiets my engine but in the winter months I also mix it with PowerService (white bottle) for its anti-gel qualities.

Never heard of the Primrose product but I would like to see the specs. I have used the Stanadyne Performance Formula in three diesels and never had a problem. Dunno what you mean about injector knock but it sure sounds like you have a fuel issue if your tank is rusting and water in it. Very low quality fuel will knock bad until you add enough additive to raise the cetane. You need to find a new fuel supplier. I was under the impression that the Stanadyne removed the water by absorbing it and then allowing it to pass through the fuel system and be consumed. I quite agree with Larry that additional lubricity can be found by simply adding a little oil to the fuel. I prefer to use 2-cycle oil since it was designed to be burned anyway. I use about 4oz per tankfull in winter. recently I have been using Howes Lubricator Diesel Treat Antigel as it is much cheaper than the Stanadyne and it appears to work as well. They are also a local RI co. and I like to support a local biz when I can. RT

Little Vege oil off the grocery shelf might work for lubricity too but it matters your climate (thickens in cold weather). But, either way BioDiesel or Grocery Vege oil, may or may not be good for you. Can't tell if climate is an issue for you since you don't list a location.

Sounds for you then it would be more cost effective to not use the Vege. oil based things in the winter.
