Climate Control Green Vac Line

Ok. I pump down the Climate Control Vac line and I get a slow leak. Maybe it goes from 10-0 in about a minute (that might be a bad leak?) -- car still shuts down with key in first second.

Question: Is there a logical place that this leak can be coming from? I checked from where the green line connects underdash (right side of driver side behind dash)... but I can't test much beyond that since I haven't taken the dash apart.

I'd like to fix... let me know what you're thinking is.

Thanks,
Pete

Pete:

Most likely is a bad connector under the dash, followed by a bad vac servo in the ACC. You're gonna have to climb under the dash and check, then check all the servos and switchover valves.

I'm going to do this in the TE this spring -- I have to replace the evaporator anyway, I think, so will start buying servos and do the whole thing at once.

So I'm guessing you're talking about ripping the whole dash apart?

Ive got an ac vac leak too

Ive got a vacuum leak in my ac system somewhere. Currently i have the system plugged up with a golf tee until i can rip apart the dash. I am not looking forward to it at all. Ripping the dash out seems really scary, but once its done, itll be cool...pun intended

Push the far right button on the climate control panel (it turns everything off)and see if there is still a leak. If the leak continues, I believe it cannot be any of the vacuum actuators or the switch over valves so the leak is upstream of the panel. Then, check the system using the separate buttons. If it leaks when calling for heat, it's probably the footwell vent actuator to the right of the accelerator pedal. If it leaks on AC, it could be other actuators including the center vent actuator. I'm not sure which actuators are indicated by the other buttons.

You can get to quite a bit of vacuum stuff just by dropping the kick panels above the footwells and removing the glove box. Test everything you can get to. I see a dash pull/repair/replace coming up in my near future in the '81. It has a blue interior and the dash is cracked all to heck and back. I believe I am going to install the black dash instead of a blue one. Black seems to hold up better. In addition, the climate control system does not work as it is supposed to and I will have to sort that stuff out. I'll probably start on it in the spring (around February).
