Injector Testing/Rebuilding Service

OK, seems that a LOT of people need/want their injectors rebuilt. We can all do that ourselves, as far as the dis-assy and cleaning anyway.

But..., checking the pop pressures and pattern are another matter.

Am thinking of buying a bench tester and offering cheap rebuilds with testing (and shimming if need be to bring all within spec, or more than likely BETTER than). Since I'm out of work for the winter and bills that I can't pay are staring at me this might actually help me pay a few bills (but not all). Importantly, this would be a service we're all interested in that a member can provide for less $'s than most (or any) shops.

If enough here think this is a worthwhile thing to invest in, I'll do it (with Gfriends $'s of course).

So.., state your interest in supporting a home business that just rebuilds/tests/calibrates MB IDI diesel injectors.

If nothing else, it would be nice to be able to "rent" it out to members to help defray the cost of the tester if no one is interested in having me do the injectors.

Tom, I don't be the one to burst your bubble with my opinion...just being honest here...

I don't think that the injector business would be that lucrative to the home business person. Injector shops either specialize in other services as a supplement or have the business associations with other shops as a subcontractor for this service. Although there may be some talk from diesel owners about doing this, they'd probably be a one time customer from the standpoint that they run these things in their cars for many thousands of miles. The amount of these one time customers may not be enough to offset your costs and/or time.

Now if you could offer low low priced engine rebuilds with this service, you might have something there. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Tom,
I'd be interested in being a customer. I know that my injectors are needing service.

I have thought of it also

I to have thought of doing this just to defray the cost of equipment. If you do it Ill sell you used injectors for $6.50 each plus shipping if you buy at least 20

I have 5 that I would pay you to clean and pressure balance if you could do it within a couple pounds opening pressure.
I don't mind paying good money if I know I'm getting good work.
Thanks, Adam Bush

A couple pounds?!? MB spec is like 5 bar = 73.5psi, common spec is 3 bar = 44.1psi and you want 2psi, is that possible?? I don't think the shims are that adjustable, perhaps you mean 2 bar.

I have thought of buying my own but after looking into what they cost and for how little I would use it myself I couldn't justify buying it.

Right, just what I was thinking. That's why I'm putting out the feelers to see how feasible it is to procure the equipment and at least re-coup SOME of the cost.

May be all for naught though, had a BIG screwup yesterday on the engine (will post about it) and all funds that I DON'T have anyway, will go to correct that.

Also, had a dis-agreement with the bread winner of the house, may be "modifying" my living arrangements shortly. Jeez..., if it's not one thing it's another!

Couple of bars - thanks, you're right!
I would beg and plead forgiveness to her!!! I don't know your situation, but ask yourself if you truly treated her right like you would like to be treated, then decide. Woman are especially susceptible to a guy who is willing to admit his mistake and say "sorry" if it's genuine. Give her a plan how you won't do it again, ...
Good luck,
Adam

Uh..., that's really not the problem, actually, we don't "fight" per se, she's just too much like a man and I'm too much like a woman ("you are what you...."????).

So she always wants...., um..., "attention" and it takes a lot to get me going and I'm not interested most of the time so she gets pissed that she doesn't "get enough"? For me, her attraction never was physical, but more that we like to do the same things, she's smart, can think, can learn, is willing to do anything. She on the other hand, only seems to want one thing, all the time.

Used to like older women when I was younger, now it's killing me!

I must say that I am envious of your situation! You have what most of us married guys dream for - a woman who can't get enough "attention"!!!
Take care and good luck with your car.

OK, already one member who has committed to having me do ALL of his injectors and a few on this thread who've said they would, so....

Next question, what's a reasonable price that you would pay for rebuilt/calibrated/matched injectors?

Name a price you'd "expect" to pay AND a price that would be a good enough deal that you would HAVE to get it done!
