Removal wood between front seats?

I like to refinish all the wood in my car, repairing some small cracks, most is not a problem but how do I remove safely the wood where the tranny stick is (mid consol?), any hidden surprises?

Thanks

I guess you're talking about your '79 CD? Best thing to do is to pull all of the switches out first before you try to remove the panel. The one "surprise" you will encounter is the small round plastic pin at the back of the wood panel where it curves down. This will break off if you try to pull up the rear of the panel instead of pulling it back toward the back seats.

Thanks, yes it's for my 300CD.

I found it easier to remove if the ashtray is out (open it and there are two screws inside) because the wood has these funny ridges at the end, where it slides underneath the edge of the ashtray.

True! I forgot to mention this as well. It's been a while since I had mine pulled out. I don't think it'll come out if you don't remove those screws in the first place.
