I am replacing the shut off valve in my 1991 300D 2.5. The actual valve itself is held in place by one 10mm bolt and now that it is unbolted, the valve does not want to come out. It may come out if I encourage it with a screwdriver, but since I have not doe this before, I would rather not take any chances.
Any words of wisdom??

Yes I've replaced many! There are 2 bolts & the second one is a BEAR! Most techs remove intake manifold to remove diaphram. Just the right tool & a bit of skill can keep you from removing the manifold.

Thanks!!
I am going to check it out right now!!

CJ 06-30-2000 10:55 PM

I looked at the car and I think I can get it, but I will have to wait until Monday, since I do not want to rush the job and my Wife is getting agitated that I have been playing with the car for sometime now. I will keep you posted as to the outcome.
Again thanks for the advice!!!!

Oh yeah one more thing, right next to the shut off valve is another device that has an electrical connection on it. The base of this device looks like it is sitting on the lip of the shut off valve holding it in as well. What is this device and how do I remove it??
Thanks!!!

I cross referenced that mysterious device in a parts catalog and it looks like it is the electric idle control solenoid. Any special procedures for removing or installing this device??

That is the rack position sensor, push the plastic thum-wheel (it rotates) & you can unplug connector.

Thanks MB DOC.
When I put it back in pace, is there any special things I should pay attention to?

CJ 07-02-2000 08:20 PM

M.B. Doc,
I pushed the thumb wheel both ways and I can not get the connector to lift up. Once the thumb wheel is pushed, is this just a regular electrical connector? It looks like I can get to the back bolt if that connect is removed.

MB Doc,
Where are you???

CJ 07-03-2000 08:40 PM

MBZ tells me today that the connector should just pop up after I loosen the wheel. I am just nervous about applying pressure to something that I am not familiar with.

mbdoc 07-03-2000 09:43 PM

If you have moved the lever far enough the wiring connector will pull up & out. Didn't play golf like most today, I had to work! But even the doc gets a few minutes off.

M.B. DOC,
Thanks for the help, I was able to get the electrical connector off, but I still need a few more hairs to get to the bolt. If I could remove the rack position sensor, that would give me enough room. Can the rack position sensor just be removed by unsrewing it and then put back in or are there any special precautions I should take?
You were not kidding when you said it was a bear to get to!!!! :) :0 :)

CJ 07-04-2000 02:33 PM

I need to remove the rack position sensor, are there any special precautions in doing so? Can I just put back in when I am done?

mbdoc 07-05-2000 09:49 PM

As I suggested try removing the intake manifold instead of Aneroid compensator, and or rack position sensor.
