300SD vs. 300CD

I have a 1981 300SD for now, but I've gotten news of a pretty nice 300CD for sale in the area. I like big cars, thats why I have the SD, and because I claimed it for myself in the 5th grade before we stopped driving it. I know the 300CD is the W123, and I've test driven two W123s, both 300Ds, one a 84, and the other a 85. The 85 was okay, and the 84's turbo didnt work, so I didnt get to check it out completely. But I would like to know, compared to the 300SD, is the 300CD faster? How do the rides comapre to each other? I've heard the 300CD parts availibility is kind of limited and those rear windows can be a real bugger to fix if they go bad. Are those things true? I'm most likely sticking to the 300SD, but I'd just like to know.

I really love my 300CD, but I guess I would love a 300SD to.

Mine is a non turbo but really fast for a regular one and they are absolute great with parallel parking, never had a car that made it so easy!

Most parts are easy to find, some take some time and cost a little more.

The back windows I have to address soon, before the summer.

My dad has a SD and I had a CD, both turbos, and yeah the CD was faster. Rides good, pretty smooth, but the CD is lighter and you can tell. Probably want some lower springs right off the bat if you can. No back seat space in it tho. I upgraded to a W124 300CE, but for a diesel a CD is a good choice, got lots of compliments.
For parts, wasnt that bad, just like any mercedes i suppose, unless you want it perfect with no leaks and stuff, but that goes without saying.

Thumbs up 300CD Turbo diesel 1983

Every place I went with this car I've had people ask me what year ,how many miles it has. I love the SD & would like to get one!If you can try to keep your SD & get the 300. Space is tight but what a good looking car even if it's 18 years old!
