Parts to stock for your MB diesel

I am planning on visiting the junkyard and picking up a few parts to keep on the shelf as spares. I live far from junkyards. Which parts would you keep on hand besides the usual filters? Would it be starters, injectors, power steering pumps, power window motors, CV axles, or whatever?

Thanks.

Good idea for pick 'n pull junkyards is grab anything that appears "new" or improves your existing car...... Look for injectors that appear to have been recently replaced by previous owner. Otherwise make mental list of fiddly bits that could use replacing on your car like cracked shift boot, cracked wood console pieces, etc...... also dive into the trunk and glovebox for stuff like service manuals and MB tool kit that your car might lack.

Otherwise, the general rule of stockpiling parts is whatever you stash will never be used or needed in your existing car.

Have been doing this with Jeeps for over 20 years. No statement rings as much truth as the above!

The only parts I try to stock are seals, hoses, gaskets, filters, lights, et cetera. I wouldn't buy any component not needed unless I know something isn't right with a part or could use improving upon.

The parts at my local pick and pull are so cheap that if I see a Mercedes diesel I get what I can. For instance, I got complete 4 speed manual tranny, linkages, shifter, driveshaft flywheel and clutch for just over $100.
I stupidly overlooked the head on a TD that was there in the recent past. The heads with hydraulic pumps are rare and I could have gotten it for about $25.
If you can find an early 123 ACC servo in decent shape, its worth its weight in gold.

I wouldn't bother with wiper blades and oil filters

If anyone ever sees a Mercedes 207-409d van in a junkyard, let me know. I'd drive a lot of miles to strip that vehicle clean.

I can splain. . . That's not my yard. It's a picture that the prior owner sent me when I was considering buying it. Not that I don't collect things, but those particular things are not my taste. My garage is mostly filled with boats. Although I do have a few feet of shelves in the basement with Mercedes parts from junkyards.

Would anyone consider pulling an injection pump and keeping it as a spare?

I would. Just make sure to seal it up VERY well.

I would keep a complete working spare engine if I could.
