Exchangeable parts between '67 200D and '79 240D....???

Finally, finally can get my hands on decent finbody diesel!!! My plan is to bone my existing '79 240D, upgrade/swapping parts that are interchangeable across 2 generations of Mercedes Benz........ or just liquidate the 123 at bargain price if not swap it outright for the 110 Heckflosse Benz that in my opinion is the finest 35-40mpg car that anybody could ever own. Yeah, i know the thing is slow as a slug that creeps up to warp drive of maybe 72mph.... but I dont care!!

My question is whether or not glowplugs, injectors, injector pump and generator, starter are interchangeable?

Btw, engine swap is out of the question with differences in driveline hookup and oil filter that collides with Heckflosse steering gear. But am certain 14" wheels (even bundt-cakes) will fit easily as upgrade over stock finbody 13" rims. Also the entire dash woodwork, window trimmings and leather seats (if i can fine em) are interchangeable from contemporary '60s 220Sb sedans. Yep, this is gonna be an excellent project/dailly driver for me.

Hahaha, heeheehee - it will be exciting as hell to be drivin primitive old world Benz again thats got zero vacuum system, zero electronics - and practically nothin electrical except the headlights. Hell, if its the newer version it's even got deluxe 2 speed windshield wipers, instead of one speed wipers that were stock equipment on the earlier 190b and some 190c's.

I want one of those so bad. Those are, hands down, the COOLEST Benzes. People make fun of me nbecause my '79 SD is slow, I don't car. But, a fintail, is beyond compare to any other car.

I would guess next to nothing. Maybe injectors, but the engines are different, heads are different, the injectors on the fin-tail are the old ones with banjo fitting overlfow lines, etc.

You would have to check with someone more experienced than I for particulars.

Thanks Peter, regarding the injectors... this was major question i had. Interestingly, the Bosch glowplug upgrade kit from loop plugs to pencil plugs is said to FIT the old finbody 200D.

Right now the car is about 10 hour drive away. It's allegedly got fewer than 200k miles on the engine....... 4-spd floor shift - dang it, i'd rather have the column shift that's alot more fun with an outrageous reverse where you slap the shift lever towards the steering wheel and up.

Apparently the knob that activates glow plugs is critical high dollar item on primitive diesels..... it also kicks the IP for higher idle and starting the car is 3 step procedure. Dunno if its got separate starter button or if starter is key activated same as normal modern diesels. Glow plug indicator is extremely bizarre...... this little hornet's nest looking thing with metal element inside that glows red hot - before they advanced to modern lightbulb indicator. LOL, the old style indicator doubles as hand warmer in really cold weather.

For sure will post plenty of pics that detail eccentricities of the old world diesel in another week or two when i land the car. Its probably too "new" for hollow camshafts that squirt oil out of the lobes.

My chief concern rests with condition of the IP, Kingpins and clutch pressure plate - an extremely hard to find item, MB used different clutch pressure plates and throwout bearings throughout the 110 series. PO replaced the brakes and restored the original "Kuhlmeister" A/C system.

For me the car will be dailly driver that racks up plenty of miles.... I get the feeling its been through several owners who never completely adjusted their habbits towards enjoying one of the slowest vehicles on the road. Here in the country we share state roads with farm equipment, tractors and rickety trailer rigs - so the 200D will have good company.

David, its kinda scary even for me who has owned finnies in the past to think about makin a '67 200D into my one and only car..... But am certain that maintaining it will be piece of cake, provided its got no major problems such as starter knob switch or IP. Naturally, it will be an adventure driving the car in *any* city rush hour situation. Am relying on my truck driving experience to achieve success, meanwhile I'm expecting to see alot of upset people stuck behind me...... tough luck for them, i guess. Am gonna be laughin and smilin at any speed.

Dieseldog, that car will start just like my old ponton, and my W115 240D. Ya pull the knob out to make the coil glow in the salt shaker, then pull out the rest of the way to start. There is a high idle adjustment knob that was used all the way up to the W123's and maybe even farther.
