grease slinging half shaft
Hi,
In april of 2003, one of the inner boots on a halfshaft of my 83 300D failed. Tore apart and it was siezing up. I had it replaced at the dealer, with the supposedly new improved version. Last time I looked under the car, it looks like something around there slings grease up, onto the underside of the car. I think it is from the funny shaped bolts that attach onto the flange of the setup. The axle makes no noise, and MPG is fine. Do you think most likely there was too much grease in there, and heating caused it to ooze out and sling around? Or is the shaft defective? Should I be worried? The boots are totally fine. Thanks, JMH

Could it be the grease from the first boot?
If it was extra just "expanding" out, clean it off and look at it in a few days and see if it's gone. |

Mine did the same thing. I cleaned it out, used some jb weld around it and it seems to be holding up so far.
