Advice about pending purchase please! (cross post)

Hi all,

I'm working on buying a 300d and could use some advice. The car is a one owner Texas vehicle with 180,000 miles. It has always been garaged and has not been driven much in the last two years (5,000-8,000 miles). The car has always been serviced at the MB dealer and has had oil changes at less than 5,000 miles. It sounds like all repairs recommended by the dealer have been made. The only flaws I have been able to find are some minor cracking on the dash and a replaced rear quarter panel due to a minor accident. There has been no transmission or engine work done and lots of general maintenance (belts, hoses, A/C etc).

The owner has graciously offered to take the car to the dealer for a checkup and to give me the chance to talk to the service folks about the condition of the car.

Can you recommend any questions I should ask the mechanics? Any words of wisdom about this car? Anything would help!

Thanks, Chuck

things to check

Check for rust, oil leaks, turbo return lines etc, compression check, turbo operation should have good power min smoke at idle, good oil pressure 1.5 bar at idle, 3.0 above.
Transmission how does it shift any slippage? color and smell of fluid etc? Climate control and air-cond function, very expensive to repair. paint and interior, wood, dash, make sure you like it very expensive to restore and repair. good cars but getting old. have fun
