What exhaust system to use?

Im at my wits end on this.

There are plenty about to choose from but can they be put on a

1991-92 300D (European)

Are there different ones for Diesels or can you use what they send you?

eg: w124 '83-93 6cyl

Also whats the situation regarding the cars model number.

I find some places its listed as w124 E300 or 300D or even E300D

Is there any difference? please help i havent a clue!
