what's the most I should pay?

I removed my speedo today and box'ed it up and shipped it overnight to be repaired. The question is when they call with how much, whats the most I should pay?. Base price for repair is 160.00 and up. I'm really not clear on what its worth. Any advice would be great, 83 300sd steve

A couple of years ago, I paid $75 to fix my 240D speedometer, but since then have discovered (from this forum) that I could have done it myself. The trip meter recently stopped working, the odometer is still working, and so I guess I'll have the opportunity to try to fix myself this time.

And just where did you send it? Steve Brotherton, who spends numerous hours supporting this site's Tech Help section, is a partner in Continental Imports. Among other things, they repair VDO speedometers.

Awwwww, well, I , awww, guess I screwed up. If I had known about continental imports, I would have used them. I used the search and found only programma, and they didn't even reply to a email so I went to google for help. I sent it to a company in minnasota. I guess I didn't look hard enough. steve

Well, of course you can't be blamed for not finding anything with the search. This doesn't help you now, but for the potentially hundreds of people out there reading but not posting on this board, the best approach is to:

1. Search the archives for an answer
2. Ask for help if you're still unsure
3. Act on the problem

Rick, I gota be honest, I always think twice before asking a question, as it seems some members are quick to jump on other members for not knowing the answer or not knowing to use the search. Belive me when I say I would have used that guy if I had known. I would like to see a link of all suppoters of the web site. It would help me greatly as I continue to rebuild my car. Now I suppose someone will jump in to tell me to take this to the open discussion site. O-well steve 83 sd
