617 Fan clutch
Hi,
I have read the archives about testing the fan clutch, and will do that, but I have a quick question about bad fan clutches... Will a bad fan clutch on a 617 cause an intermittent squeak at cold and/or hot idle? I have an odd squeak in the very front of my engine, and Im thinking that is what it is. But I dont have any real indication of a bad fan clutch at this time, unless the temperature issues in the extreme cold, talked about in my other post are slightly indicative of an upcoming problem Fastlane has the clutch for over $170, so I hope I dont have to replace it... JMH

I really doubt that it could. I believe there is a fluid inside of it, perhaps if all of this fluid was gone it may but I've never heard of an instance before where it began squeaking.

The fan clutch in the E420 was 'bad' according to my dealer. They replaced it for free though they actually said it was still working but noisy. It made a constant ticking noise.

Alternator Bearing Bad?
I though that Lilly had a bad fan clutch...she had an intermittent squeak at idle. Turns out it was a bad bearing in the alternator.
